Give me some cash!
About 2 years ago we discovered that it may be possible to get a start up grant from the tourist board to help promote our business. On further investigation we found that we met the criteria for not one but three different packages offering financial aid, great eh!.
In reality however it was a little more complex and whilst we both speak good Spanish neither of us had the ability to fill in the eighty page booklet required for application. It was about this time we realised that if we were to stand any chance it meant devoting a considerable amount of time and money just to be considered. Some weeks later we had everything including our long term three phase business plan ready for translation into Spanish and we had established a contact within the system who would help/advise with our application. The entire process probably took around 6 months by which time the funding for that year had all been used up!.
For a while we resigned ourselves to the fact that may be we had missed the boat on this then suddenly Einat was called for an interview in Almeria, funding had been made available for women starting businesses. The interview lasted for around an hour and Einat gave a small presentation which included a DVD/ Video we had made. We got a lot of positive feedback regarding the interview and people within the tourist board seemed impressed with both our business plan and our intentions to promote mountain biking in the Sierra de Los Filabres in general.
More time passed…………. Then without warning, wow what’s this in my bank account? We’ve been given some funding!!! .
