Things you need to know
Mountain Biking Spain is a fully legal company, supported by the Junta de Andalucia and registered with the Ministry of Tourism.
Our official registration number is AT/AL/00047. This certifies that we meet all legal and professional requirements.
At the present time we are the only fully legal mountain biking company operating in the the Almanzora valley.
This is becoming increasingly more important as the Spanish authorities and police clamp down on illegal companies.
If caught riding with an illegal organisation you the client are deemed to be just as guilty, you can expect to be fined up to 5,000 euros along with the confiscation of your bike. Don't take that risk. Book your adventure and ride with a registered company. Ask to see their AT number (Active Turismo number).
Here are a few requirements, recommendations and general info for you to consider before booking.
There is no upper age limit to attending one of our courses or breaks, but under 18's must be accompanied by a cycling parent.
Your safety is always our first priority, we insist that you always wear a helmet. For the vast majority of our riding we don't wear knee/shin, or elbow pads. We do however hold a small stock should the need arise.
You will need travel and medical insurance that covers mountain biking, as well as your European Health Insurance Card. We ask to see, and make a copy of these before you ride with us.
SportsCover Direct are one of several companies offering such cover especially for mountain bikers.
You can apply on-line for your European Health Insurance Card by clicking here
It is beneficial that you have a reasonable level of fitness. In other words, you take some form of regular weekly exercise and have the stamina to spend 3 hours plus on your bike.
Although we do have hire bikes we recommend that skills are learned on your own bike. Your bike can be full suspension or hard tail but most importantly needs to be in good working order. Disc brakes are advantageous and we ask you to bring spare pads along with any spares that are specific to your bike. We hold a limited stock of spares but it is wise to bring a gear cable, chain, gear hanger and half a dozen inner tubes unless you run tubeless. Lightish bikes with at least 100mm of travel and big volume tyres work best here.
Fluid replacement is a big priority here, we ride with 3 litre bladders in back packs large enough to carry food, tools, clothes, spares, protection and anything else you need for a day in the back country.
Mountain Biking Spain owns a quad bike which we use on longer routes to re-supply you with water, treats, and for extraction off the mountain in an emergency.
On confirmation of booking we will send you a detailed list of useful and essential items.
